Farmsteading in Thailand

Memoirs of a solo American comes to Thailand with no contacts, little money and no handle on the language. Deciding to settle in northernmost region, near Burma and Laos, the author articulates many of the quirky scenarios which unfolded. Planting unknown (to SE Asia) varieties of trees from seed, and two solo floats down large rivers (one in a raft made of recycled plastic bottles) are just a couple snapshots of the interactions with locals, some of whom are hill tribe members without nationality who cannot legally enter nearby towns, and who have never worn shoes or gone to school. Currently, the author is developing a yoga retreat and, on a nearby property, an outdoor rock climbing / adventure park with 180 meter zip lines and amazon jungle type 3-rope bridges through the large trees.
