Living in Thailand is a book about moving to Thailand and making it work. Author, Mike Fook has made it work for nearly 6 years.
This, and Mike’s other book, “Thai Black Book” are must-reads for anyone moving to Thailand for any amount of time.
What is Living in Thailand LIKE?
Eating bugs is as common as eating potato chips:
“In Isaan one time I had lunch with some top administrators from the department of education… the first thing the head of the organization ordered was a couple of bowls of rice bugs, crickets, and silkworms for appetizers. Oh, and some beer for us all! There is no stigma attached to ordering beer at lunch time here in Thailand. Even among teachers! It’s normal. It’s easy to get used to, as you can imagine…”
About Teaching in Thailand:
“The “F – it” attitude is important. As an American I think we have less of it than maybe some other cultures. In school we were made to be good. It was not a democracy in the classroom. We didn’t just get rowdy as an entire class if we all felt like it. And I find it hard to believe that we EVER got as loud as a classroom of Thai kids when they get going.”
