In the healing practices found throughout traditional Thai culture, both Buddhism and shamanism continue to play a significant role. Drawing on the author’s extensive academic research and practice of those arts, this book provides an overview to the spiritual practices of Thailand, with particular emphasis on healing rituals and meditations that can be practiced in the modern West.
Illustrated throughout with attractive photography and diagrams, The Spiritual Healing of Traditional Thailand is intended to be a visual experience, while drawing the reader into the colorful world of Thai spirituality. The photographs were taken as the author traveled the countryside of Thailand, engaging with monks, shamans, and various healers.
Interspersed with the images are traditional meditations, prayers for healing, instructions for practice of Thai ceremonies, and biographies of well-known Thai healers. Resources for further reading and study are placed at the end of each chapter, along with accessible background information on the history and philosophy of Thai Buddhism and shamanism in non-technical language.
